Pepperoni Man

This wacky superhero sketchbook drawing was inspired by a childhood friend I knew from the neighborhood I grew up in back east. Eastern Seaboard for those not familiar with the term. The name (Pepperoni Man) fit his persona and the spirit of that neighborhood then. I had a great time growing up and playing in that neighborhood.

Very cool!– all soft pencil, isn’t it?

Comment by Mark Armstrong

Hi Mark,
It’s mostly Faber Castell Polychromos, my favorite pencil. It gets a wider range of darks and lights than any other pencil I know.

Hi Fiona,
Lasagna for some reason was absent from tables in the mostly Italian-American neighborhood I grew up.

Thank you Fiona! That’s the nicest thing anyone has said to me on this blog and I suppose that’s what I have to give as an artist. :)

So what superpowers would Pepperoni Man have? The ability to transform any dull pizza into something with a bit of pizzazz?

Comment by Kim Ayres

Hi Kim,
He has the ability to transform a normal neighborhood to a neighborhood with pizzazz!
Love the wordplay by the way!
