59 copy

I took this photo during a rare moment walking when the sun had risen.
I saw yet another shooting star about a week ago just before the sun rose. It was over the ocean more westerly than the previous two. This time I was facing it directly and could trace the streak across the sky. It was a long streak of light, it’s origin was a slightly thicker light tapering towards the end. Like the others it was just a brief moment…which I guess makes these moments all that more magical.

Moonlight Adventures

2 copy3

Gouache studies done during my moonlight excursions.

During my moonlight walks there’s a beauty beyond compare to anything I’ve seen during the day. There’s a kind of magic in it. Some sights are really breathtaking…I saw a shooting star just upon starting my walk about a week ago. It was over the ocean, towards my south. This is the second I’ve seen. In fact the first time I saw one it was in that same place. This shooting star was different from the first as it wasn’t merely a streak of light…I saw a shape with a long tail of light. Then it appeared to slow for a moment as it entered the atmosphere and seemed to then disappear, assumably disintegrating. Maybe it was space junk. In any case it was very cool to see— and in fact, I said just that right after seeing it.

Dawn of the Raccoon

beautifulmorning copy

I painted this during my usual crazy early hour of the morning walk. You can see that it was pretty dark. After sitting there awhile, I heard a kind of purring sound. It reminded me of the sound that dinosaur made in Jurassic Park before it attacked Newman. I didn’t move at first, then I turned and clearly saw a raccoon standing up looking at me not three yards away, and another scampering away. I said softly, “It’s okay.” I said it not only to calm the raccoon… but also to calm myself. Then I turned and deliberately walked away.

Sketching Around Town

On the promenade…
Maybe I should explain this sketch done below on the promenade yesterday. A family slowly gathered near the palm tree I was shading. A little girl of around 4 or 5 years from the family took interest in what I was doing. Shortly after her sister came over and they wanted to join in, asking for pencils which explains the inverted name the guy is calling. Which coincidentally is exactly what happened that moment, as the family was going.

It’s photo time. Above are stormy seas I took around Christmas. It was kind of fun a little scary to watch. It’s one of my recent favorites.

Isle of the Dolls

I went out early one morning this weekend for my walk. Earlier than my usual early. Before the sun had risen. When I got to the promenade there were a few cars. Another car drove up and three young girls got out. They were young. Young enough to make me wonder which one was old enough to drive? I also thought we must be the only people out. As they passed me they acted as guilty as heck…like they were hiding something. Shrug. One said “Hi!”, really just way to put on a face. She was the one with very long wavy hair. “Good morning”. They went down to the beach and I walked by. On my way back home I saw one of the group was sitting on the beach. The others were in the water. They were only a silhouette in the dark. Must have been cold. Skinny dipping?

Beach n’ People

I know I’ve mentioned this before…I have the most fun sketching people. This is the first time I’ve sketched people on the beach. It hadn’t crossed my mind before getting into I’d get as much attention (back). It was alright though.
