Had a chance to sketch at another one of my favorite places…Walmart. There’s a McDonald’s located there. I sit in one of the booths listening to a group of old timers in the booth behind me talking about the old days while I sketch. They have so many interesting stories.

While sketching, these tiny birds with an olive underbelly flew in front of me…they were so small they’d fit in the palm of your hand.
I’ve been to this place to sketch enough times that there’s a cow who recognizes me when I go here. When I was there with a friend once she asked,” Does she still love you”? Last time I went there was couple with a child there. The cow walked over to me and began shaking its head. The woman said, “She likes you!”. Funny, I had to smile…that’s always lost on me unless someone says.

I went out early one morning this weekend for my walk. Earlier than my usual early. Before the sun had risen. When I got to the promenade there were a few cars. Another car drove up and three young girls got out. They were young. Young enough to make me wonder which one was old enough to drive? I also thought we must be the only people out. As they passed me they acted as guilty as heck…like they were hiding something. Shrug. One said “Hi!”, really just way to put on a face. She was the one with very long wavy hair. “Good morning”. They went down to the beach and I walked by. On my way back home I saw one of the group was sitting on the beach. The others were in the water. They were only a silhouette in the dark. Must have been cold. Skinny dipping?

I know I’ve mentioned this before…I have the most fun sketching people. This is the first time I’ve sketched people on the beach. It hadn’t crossed my mind before getting into I’d get as much attention (back). It was alright though.

I could clearly see the desert environment in this sketch that I drew while waiting for the library to open. Sometimes it’s not so obvious.
One morning just as a gray of light was peeking over the horizon I took a walk. It was deserted and soundless except for the hum of streetlights. I rounded into a parking lot, where by then all you could see was a cloudy sky. Just then something flew silhouetted against that sky. I thought what kind of bird is that? When I asked myself that I realized it was no bird. It was flapping to stay aloft. Flapping like a bat. Then another. The silhouette was clear. The two were flying around right there not more than fifteen feet in the sky in front of me. Flying around as if they were playing. Now I know I said “cool”. Of course no one was there to hear me except the bats. I thought bats are more often found in deserts aren’t they? Well against that dark cloudy sky it felt like Transylvania.
